PERINTON, N.Y. — On Wednesday, residents in Perinton were without power and it’s not the first time this year it’s happened. They say approximately 1,500 people within the town were living in the dark.

One Perinton resident, Christine Brown, lost power around 3 p.m. Wednesday. She says it's the third time this year they’ve lost power.

“We seem to lose power quite frequently and it seems to take several hours before we get the electricity or the power back," Brown said. "I’m just a little disappointed with RG&E’s response. I have a 3-year-old and a dog. It would be great if the response was a little bit quicker. At some point it’s been days."

Brown says her family will stay at her mom’s house until the issue is resolved and she didn’t see any RG&E vehicles in the neighborhood. During last year’s wind storm she was without power for four days.

“Well our basement flooded, we lost a lot of food from our fridge, we lost a couple of trees. It was an inconvenience,” added Brown

Other residents say they’re fortunate to have a generator.

“Well this is a whole house generator which was very costly, but everything’s working, even the toaster the television, the computers. It runs the whole house,” said Hope Quallo, Perinton resident.

Quallo has lived in Perinton for 24 years and didn’t always have a generator.

“Well, worried when you’re in a neighborhood with large trees. I was telling my neighbor about when my son, who is now 51, was a baby and we were using safety pins for diapers. They didn’t have the kind of diapers they have now and doing that by candlelight was not fun,” added Quallo.

A Spokesperson for RG&E, Kevin Ortiz, says they will be accessing the powerline and tree damage throughout the night to ensure safety for their utility crews. He stressed that safety is the main priority. Currently, there is no estimated time of restoration.
