A Wayne County sergeant is being recognized for saving the life of a Rochester police officer several years ago.
Deputies say RPD sergeant Ralph Gagliano was driving to in Wayne County after his shift on November 23rd, 2013 when he stopped at a Tops grocery store in Ontario.
There Gagliano experienced a severe headache and left the store.
On his way home, Gagliano drove off the road.
Sergeant Joseph Ayotte responded to the crash and quickly determined that Gagliano was experiencing a medical emergency.
He was transported to Strong Hospital and underwent surgery for a brain aneurysm.
According to deputies, Gagliano has no recollection of the accident, his surgery or the following 21 days until he became conscious.
Gagliano presented Ayotte with the life-saving award on Wednesday.
