Teens from around the world are powering up their technology skills at RIT for the 2018 Finger Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics competition.

50 different high school teams from as far away as China are taking part.

The theme of this year's game was "Power Up" which set up the robotics field to resemble the inner workings of a video game.

"This particular program is our high school program's FIRST Robotic competition,” said Regional Director of FIRST Glen Pearson. “It's the one we started with; it's the most intense, highest energy."

The top three teams from the event will earn a chance to qualify for the championships in Detroit, Michigan next month.

The action continues today at at the Gordon Field House. Closing ceremonies begin at 4:30 p.m.
