A Rochester City school teacher is raising thousands of dollars so students can see the movie Black Panther.

“Ms. T talks about it every day like it`s the best movie she`s ever seen,” said senior, Charles Brown.

Melissa Teague teaches 10th grade at School Number 58.

Teague created a Go Fund me to raise enough money to send every student at the school to the movies.

“I wanted our students to know that heroes are found within our community, said School 58 teacher, Melissa Teague. The community itself could be the hero.”

The RCSD teacher came up with the idea after assigning her 10th grade class a civil rights and Black Lives Matter project.

Students were asked to research community heroes as part of the assignment.

Originally, Teague was going to only take her 10 grade students to the movie as a reward for their hard work.

“Im hoping that this might spark a fire,” said School 58 teacher, Melissa Teague. “They will begin to start thinking in terms of anything is possible.”

Teague says the movie Black Panther was so inspiring that she wanted the entire school to go.

“She didn’t say certain races can go see it. She chose the whole entire high school so that really mean she cares,” said Brown.

So far the Go Fund Me campaign has raised more than $2,000. Teague hopes to reach her $3,900 goal by March 14. To donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/send-wois-students-to-black-panther.
