Mohawk Valley Community College's Associate Dean of Athletics explains why the women's basketball team was forced to forfeit their entire season.

Officials say an anonymous tip sparked an investigation into allegations regarding two students being given impermissable aid by a faculty member.

The school found, there were in fact, infractions of the National Junior College Athletics Association's bylaws and school leaders self reported those violations.

The women's basketball team was sanctioned to forfeit their season and suspend their final three games.

"It's about the students," said Gary Broadhurst, MVCC's Associate Dean of Athletics and Physical Education. "That's where our hearts are right now. That it was devastating for these young women who had put so much time and effort into this season. They were such a close knit team, always supporting each other, and now to have to face this, it's been very very challenging."

One individual within the Athletics Department was involved and has been placed on administrative leave. An internal investigation regarding that individual's employment is ongoing.
