Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 46 people from 16 countries as part of a five-day operation in Western New York.

Twenty-three of the 46 arrested have prior criminal convictions and six others illegally re-entered the country after being deported.

The operation targeted people entering the country without legal permission who had criminal histories and others violating immigration laws.

Those arrested will face deportation and some face federal prosecution for re-entry after prior deportation, which carries up to 20 years in prison.
