ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a Chili man charged in a snow plow scam that defrauded at least 50 people has a suspended license and doesn't own a vehicle or a plow.

Charles Stevens, 29, is facing a felony charge of a scheme to defraud along with 15 counts of larceny.

Deputies say back in November he posted an ad on an app called Nextdoor, advertising a season of snowplowing for $120.

They say at least 50 county residents from Chili and surrounding towns met with him and signed contracts agreeing to pay the money up front. But when the first snow fell, deputies say Stevens was a no-show. Several of the victims were elderly.

Deputies say that since this case went public, an East Rochester resident contacted authorities to say he answered a craigslist posting in which Stevens used the alias Chris Kennard to advertise snow plowing services.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Stevens may have defrauded additional people under that fake name.

Anyone who believes they may have been scammed is asked to call 911.
