ROCHESTER N.Y. -- Heading into the new year, Rochester celebrated with family-fun activities downtown Sunday night.

Hundreds, from Rochester residents to visitors, gathered downtown at the ice rink in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at Manhattan Square for ice skating. Those treading through the snow were only blocks from the Convention Center, where a family party included a photo booth, a magician and even bounce houses for the kids took place.

Carrie Fuqua, a Rochester grandparent, said the events featured for New Year’s Eve offer just about everything for everyone.

“My grandkids; they love to come out here and it’s a free thing and its lots of fun, it’s something to do in the inter time you don’t want to just stay stuck up in the house,” she said.

The New Year’s Eve celebration ended with a firework show to help start 2018 off with a boom.
