GATES, N.Y. — The force is strong with Star Wars fans and the franchise's newest installment is out.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" was sold-out at several local theaters on opening night Thursday, including Tinseltown in Gates.

Star Wars fans are some of the most loyal and many went oat midnight on a weekday for some bragging rights to be the first to see it. Many of which bought their tickets online weeks ago.

The blockbuster follows 2015's "The Force Awakens;" part of the newest trilogy by Disney.

Fans eager to see what happens to the ensemble cast, and of course experience all the visual effects and music.

"I grew up watching it," said Mark Keenan of Rochester. "The first one came out when I was four and it has been a big part of my life and is still enjoyable all these years later."

"I am hoping to see good X-Wing battles," Rochester resident Quinn Avery said. "I know a lot of people care about the lightsabres and Luke Skywalker; I am here for X-Wing pilots."

"Yeah, it is kind of like the third generation of it," said Ben Longabaugh of Chili. "I saw the first three when Episode I was released and the prequels so it is kind of like tradition and fun to watch a movie in the holidays."

And don't forget Rochester's connection to this — The Last Jedi was shot on Kodak film made right here in Rochester.

The Last Jedi is expected to bring in more than $200 million opening weekend.
