NBC's annual holiday extravaganza, the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, took place Wednesday night without former "Today Show" anchor Matt Lauer.

Lauer had been scheduled to co-host the 85th annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, but he was fired earlier in the day after a colleague allegedly reported inappropriate sexual behavior by the anchor.

In a statement, NBC News's chairman said they received the complaint Monday from a former employee, which led to their decision to fire him.

Shortly after he was fired, Variety Magazine reported there were more allegations against him, including an incident where Lauer allegedly exposed himself to a female co-worker.

The tree lighting ceremony went on without him, as Mayor de Blasio was on-hand to help flip the switch to light the tree.

The 75-foot Norway Spruce is decked out with more than 50,000 lights. This year's tree came from State College, Pennsylvania.

The ceremony included performances by Gwen Stefani, Harry Connick Jr., and the Rockettes.

The tree will be lit every day from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. through Jan. 7, and for all 24 hours of Christmas Day.

After the holidays, it is expected to be donated to Habitat for Humanity, where it will be milled and made into lumber to build houses.
