DeWITT, N.Y. -- The Syracuse woman found stabbed to death in a Motel 6 parking lot knew the alleged assailant for seven years and wasphysically abused by him at least twice earlier this year, according to Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies.

Rena M. Tindell, 61, was found around 1 a.m. Tuesday in the motel's parking lot by an employee. When police arrived, she had died from her injuries. Authorities said Wednesday that they have charged Keith J. Lobdell with second-degree murder.

Lobdell, 58, was found hiding in an apartment in Syracuse's southwest neighborhood, arraigned and taken to the county jail.

He was arrested just four weeks ago on charges that he attacked Tindell with a baseball bat and seat belt in late May. He was released on Nov. 3 after Tindell posted his $200,000 bail, deputies said, and had been staying at the motel ever since.

Authorities also said Lobdell had faced charges connected to another domestic violence incident case involving Tindell earlier in May, where she was pushed to the ground, suffered a broken arm, and was beaten and sexualy assaulted throughout the night.

Tindell went to the motel Tuesday morning, an argument ensued and Lobdell stabbed her, said deputies, who said they have surveillance video of the attack.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with more information about the case to call 315-435-3081.
