ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The shopping frenzy continued on Small Business Saturday.

An estimated 112 million Americans shopped small to support local businesses.

The small shops say the benefits of shopping local encourages customers to come back.

Cooks` World in Brighton has been open almost 40 years and continues to draw crowds to the store`s kitchen selection.

“You get the personal touch. Being able to talk to people and see what they want,” said Cooks` World employee, Chuck Birch.

“The important thing for every local business owner is to try to connect the best way you can with every generation of consumer that`s out there,” added owner, Chris Wiedemer.

Parkleigh, located on Park Avenue, has been in business since the 1960s and remains a local hub for trendy gifts.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our entire society and country. We wouldn’t have big companies if it weren`t for the little guys,” said Parkleigh operations manager, Daniel Mejak.

According to the United States Small Business Association, New York has more than 800,000 workers in the small business industry.
