PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The Pittsford Town Planning Board unanimously approved plans for one of the largest YMCA branches in the country.

The new YMCA will be at the corner of Clover Street and Jefferson Road. The three-story, 140,000-square-foot facility is slated to open in the fall of 2019.

The facility will serve the county’s southeastern region, including Pittsford, Mendon, Brighton, and Henrietta. The building will feature a variety of health and wellness offerings, including expanded aquatics and an on site 15,000-square-foot medical center.

The existing YMCA branch in Pittsford is located about 2 miles from the proposed new location. Officials say the current branch has been struggling with serving its growing population. A local church congregation will be purchasing the existing facility once it is vacated.

Management says construction preparations for the new location will begin next month.
