ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rochester city schools are bringing parents into the equation to help improve the district.

“If parents get involved they can make a difference and let the school district know what we want for the future,” said parent, Bonnie Smith.

Parents, students and staff met Wednesday night to discuss ideas to help strengthen education within the Rochester City School District. Edgerton Recreation is one of the locations where the community discussions will take place in the days ahead.

Common concerns from the meetings include college prep courses, safe learning environments and performing arts programs.

“We just don’t know what to expect for the upper grades and I think that's what drives parents away,” said Smith.

“It's essential. You have to have input from your community and that's what we hope this process and this plan will provide,” said RCSD Deputy Superintendent Lawrence Bo Wright.
