ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eighteen ICU beds and ten general care pediatric beds are getting the finishing touches on the fourth and sixth floors of the Golisano Children's Hospital.

It's a long awaited new location after years of working to provide advanced pediatric care in adult facilities across the UR Medical campus.

"I can, from the ICU, help provide services within the children's hospital, which was a little more difficult when we were as far away as we've been for the past couple of years,” said Chief of Golisano’s PICU Jeffrey Rubenstein.

Advanced technology and a centralized facility, but the greatest gift of all isn’t something they can build.

"My daughter's been going through a lot of surgeries over the last eight years and it's nice to know that things can advance for us,” said Jason Coniber, Golisano Children's Hospital Family. “I just know that the end result is better care."

The hospital's care is now on par with children's pediatrics in many of the country's largest cities.

"My job when I first came here was to develop the surgical services into a world-class program,” said Dr. Walter Pegoli, chief of pediatric surgery. “I think we're there."

They plan to move patients the week after Labor Day.
