GATES, N.Y. -- The Gates Police Department, with help from the chemical dependency support group Recovery Now NY, has opened an addiction drop-in site to help people who are struggling with drug abuse.

Gates police, like a lot of law enforcement agencies, are all concerned, alarmed and frustrated about the ongoing opioid and heroin crisis. They are making an effort here to help addicts and their family and friends.

Each Thursday night they are opening the Gates Recreation Center meeting room to drug addicts and their families for "Gates to Recovery."

The addiction drop-in center in Gates is open Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gates Town Hall complex on Buffalo Road.

It's open to the public and those interested do not need to be a Gates residents to take advantage of this support program.
