ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord Thursday was a decision local activists say isn't surprising, but disheartening.

"It's unfortunate because I think it's a real opportunity for the United States instead to take a leadership role in dealing with climate change,” said Ben Frevert, a member of Rochester People’s Climate Coalition. “There are a lot of reasons the United States should take that role."

Though in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says their clean energy plans won't change.

"I think being in a state where there is a push is beneficial, but that doesn't mean there's not work to be done,” said Frevert.

Only now, they just might have to work a little bit harder.

"I think you'll see us continue on that path, perhaps more committed than ever in trying to get there,” said Enid Cardinal, RIT’s senior sustainability adviser. “Knowing that the leadership is now us, or needs to be us."
