ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Dozens of local girls are spending the week at what is certainly not your typical summer camp. They're taking part in an all-girl rock and roll camp called Girls Rock! Rochester.

First Unitarian Church on South Winton Road is hosting the junior musicians. They come from all different backgrounds, and have varying musical tastes. They're learning to play instruments and camp counselors said they're learning much more than just that.

"I think there's something really magical that happens here because it's not just about learning chords and rudiments. It's also about learning to be a girl and expressing yourself in thousands of different ways," said Kaci Smith, camp counselor.

Girls Rock! Rochester runs through Friday and culminates with a rock concert, Saturday, at the German House in Rochester.
