WEBSTER, N.Y. -- People ran for 12 hours straight Saturday to help raise money to help build a "miracle field" for the developmentally disabled in Webster Ridge Park.

Teams of runners made up of Webster Thomas cross country members past and present took part in the one mile relay.

A runner passed the baton to a teammate, who then ran another mile. Each runner ends up running seven to ten miles over the 12 hour span of time.

This year, the event will benefit Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester.

"We chose them because it's just a great cause," said Webster Thomas student Stephen Loce. "We were looking around the community for any good causes and our school had been doing a lot for them. So we were like 'hmmm, why don't we join in and help them.'"

The money raised will help build an accessible, adaptive sports complex for athletes with physical or developmental challenges. The team expects to raise a couple thousand dollars in the hopes their running will pay off.
