PENFIELD, N.Y. — It's an annual tradition in the town of Penfield: For 42 years strong, the community donates thousands of used books to Friends of the Penfield Library Book Sale.

Volunteers sorted and categorized 85,000 items for this sale that includes books, audio books, cd's and even vinyl records.

Sale proceeds support library programs, enhancements to technology and most recently, the addition of a vision aid to magnify text.

"You name it, we have used friends money to enhance services here at the library," said Bernadette Brinkman, Penfield library director. "We have people coming in months ahead of time asking us, 'when is the book sale?' So, it has already become a community fixture and we benefit from it."

The sale opens Wednesday at 10 a.m. and continues through Saturday at the Penfield Community Center on Baird Road.
