Cary, North Carolina native Kevin O'Connell won the 78th Monroe Invitational, finishing with a two-over total of 282.

O'Connell and Ashton Poole shared the leading heading to the par 5 12th hole, where O'Connell birdied to take a lead he wouldn't relinquish.

Bryce Hendrix rolled home a birdie on the 72nd hole to finish one shot behind O'Connell in a tournament that has had such winners as Dustin Johnson and Thomas Pieters.

The tournament also marked the end of an era as long-time Monroe Golf Club pro Jim Mrva is retiring at the end of the golf season, which includes the Rochester District Championships in July.

O'Connell says he plans to return to Western New York in July to play the Porter Cup.
