FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Fairport Central School District is considering a budget that would cut more than 40 jobs, including 29 teachers.

The board blames the cuts on a lack of enrollment.

The district is projecting a drop in new incoming kindergarten students as well as other grades.

Although it means smaller classroom sizes, some parents think it could also mean certain students lose an essential part of their learning experience.

"One of my children happens to be in a class with a special needs student," said Fairport resident Karl Helfner. "She requires a tremendous amount of help. Just the thought of that child losing her teacher's aide is boggling."

Voting on the $129 million budget proposal will take place May 15th from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Johanna Perrin Middle School.
