MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. -- Sheriff's deputies deployed tracking darts at the conclusion of a chase, just as a reported stolen vehicle approached the village of Mount Morris.
A black Honda began fleeing Monday night from a deputy on Interstate 390, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. After leaving the highway, deputies said the car was hitting 80 miles per hour on Route 408, heading south toward the village.
The deputy used the recently-purchased StarChase GPS Pursuit Management System to fire a tracking dart from the grill of the patrol car, which stuck to the back of the car. Dash cam video shows that almost immediately, the car pulled over.
Deputies say Montrya Brown, 26, was driving while Levert Giles, 28, was a passenger. Both men are from Mount Morris. Deputies said the car was reported stolen out of Rochester.
Brown faces a litany of charges, including driving while ability impaired by drugs and drug possession. Giles is charged with possession of stolen property.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office is the only law enforcement agency in New York State with the system.
