ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Even with all the dangers, demands and expectations of a law enforcement career, there are people who are in training now hoping to become police officers.

A couple dozen men and women are part of the Police Exam Career Prep — a training program that mirrors what the real police academy will be like.

Every Sunday, two instructors run through an exercise program for these police recruit wannabes.

It's pre-academy boot camp. They're working on push-ups, sit-ups and that mile and a half run that's part of the physical agility test to get into the Rochester Police Department Academy, the Sheriff's Academy or New York State Police Academy.

They also spend time in the classroom preparing for the written entrance exam. Some of them have already passed the written test and just waiting for a call from the academy.

"We need to be dedicated to what we are doing everyday. It is not easy putting on a uniform and going out there and dealing with what we have to deal with day in and day out so being able to talk to people, help people and be there at people's worst times," said Jen Trenton, Police Exam Career Prep instructor. "We are not seeing people when they are celebrating something we are seeing something traumatic that they are going through and being able to deal with that everyday."

This is a dedicated group, again some have already passed the exam and just waiting for that academy call, but still working out and motivating others to keep pushing towards that law enforcement career.
