ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police say a man who was being robbed fought back, shooting one of the four men who threatened to steal his car.

Police say the suspects, one of them with a gun, threatened the man on Grand Avenue Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say that man pulled out his legally registered handgun and shot the armed suspect in the upper body.

He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he's listed in serious, but stable condition. The victim was not hurt.

Rochester police say three people were arrested as a result of the incident: 19-year-old Jayelon Johnson, 19-year-old Summerman Patterson and a 14-year-old juvenile.

All three were charged with first degree attempted robbery, and attempted grandy larceny in the fourth degree.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
