ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Neighbors are calling for an end to the violence after two deadly shootings in Rochester just days apart.

William Holley was a friend of 25-year-old Devin Allen-Furtick, one of the recent shooting victims. He says he considered Furtick to be family.

“He was like a brother, I knew him from Durnan Street, over on Durnan Street,” Holley said.

Now marked by a memorial, Furtick was shot and killed on Roycroft Road Thursday night off Carter Street.

“He didn’t deserve to die," Holley said.

Just days later, Saturday afternoon, 23-year-old Amos Harring was fatally shot less than two miles away at a home on Skuse Street. Neighbors want the violence to stop.

“Why make a street a death trap when you can make the street a pleasant environment for kids?” neighbor Bruce Faircloth said.

Faircloth has lived on Roycroft Drive for nearly a decade, and worries for the safety of the kids on the block—like his granddaughter.

“A bullet has no name, a bullet has no direction unless you point it," Faircloth said. "What if a kid is out here running, and instead of hitting the ground, it hits one of them?”

Now Faircloth is calling for unity.

“We’re all on this block together," Faircloth said. "We’re all supposed to be family, that’s what I take it as a ‘block.’ We’re supposed to be family.”

And Holley is, too.

“There’s a lot of things going on out here, and things need to stop," Holley said. "People need to stop what they’re doing. People need to create love. People need to keep faith.”

Police announced Monday that 26-year-old Derrell Davis of Rochester was arrested and charged with second degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the Skuse Street shooting.

There has been no word yet on suspects in, motives or what may have led up to the Roycroft shooting.
