ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Red Cross is helping four people following a fire in Rochester.

It happened Sunday afternoon in the upstairs apartment of a duplex on Somerset Street.

Firefighters say people in the downstairs apartment heard a smoke detector go off, went upstairs to check, and saw the fire.

Residents evacuated the duplex after trying to put the fire out.

The residents of the upstairs apartment were not home at the time.

No one was hurt.

Fire crews say they were able to get water on the fire quickly, containing the flames to one room.

They say there is significant damage to the upstairs apartment and water damage to the downstairs apartment.

The cause is under investigation.
