BATAVIA, N.Y. — One man is dead and another seriously injured after a shooting and a stabbing in Batavia.

Batavia Police say Terry Toote, 41, of West Main Street in Batavia was stabbed in the chest on Central Avenue late Thursday. He was taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia for treatment. He later died from his injuries.

A second man was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. That man, identified as Nathaniel Wilson, 30, of Chestnut Street, is believed to have stabbed Toote, Batavia police say.

Wilson was treated for his injuries and, after being released from UMMC, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder for Toote's death.

Police say Wilson was shot in the leg by 17-year-old Samuel Blackshear just prior to the stabbing.

Blackshear faces numerous charges including attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

A third person, 48-year-old Jennifer Urvizu-Hanlon, is accused of giving Blackshear the gun used in the incident.

She's been charged with criminal liability for conduct of another and criminal possession of a weapon.

Batavia police say there was a disturbance at the hospital as members of Toote's and Wilson's families gathered there. The hospital was locked down for a short time as a precautionary measure. No incidents were reported and no weapons were displayed or threatened.

The department has received multiple calls to the neighborhood in recent weeks but it was not immediately clear whether Thursday night's incidents were related to any previous reports. Police confirm they've recently installed a video surveillance camera in the area.
