PENFIELD, N.Y. — An arrest was made regarding a hit-and-run involving an off-duty Rochester police officer last week in Penfield.

Court paperwork says 31-year-old Brendon Burns intentionally rear ended a stopped BMW multiple times on Penfield Road Thursday night. When the driver of that car got out of his vehicle, the paperwork says Burns drove at him and struck him.

It goes on to say Burns then drove off leaving the victim lying in the road. The victim turned out to be an off-duty Rochester police officer. He was taken to the hospital with a fractured rib among other injuries.

Deputies followed tips from witnesses leading them to an address in Rochester, where they found a 2008 Honda Civic that had damage consistent with the incident.

Officials from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office interviewed Burns, who they say made admissions to the crime and was subsequently arrested.

Burns is charged with second degree assault and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
