ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Firefighters and a scuba team rescued what appears to be a woman's body in the Genesee River, according to Rochester Police.

Rochester firefighters had confirmed earlier that a body was found in the water in the High Falls area.

Streets were shut down in the area of Commercial Street during the recovery.

Rochester Police said it didn't appear the body had been in the river for a "terribly long" amount of time.

Officials say the victim appears to be a woman in her 40s, although her identity is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities say the cause of death is still under investigation.

RFD officials say the recovery process took about 50 minutes.
