PENFIELD, N.Y. -- An off-duty Rochester police investigator was hit by a car around 9 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Route 441 and Five Mile Line Road in Penfield, according to sheriff's deputies, who stated that the car believed to be involved was located.

Deputies say the officer was stopped at a red light when a car hit his car from behind. When the officer got out of the vehicle to check on the situation, the other car drove off, striking the officer. Deputies say the car went westbound on 441 toward Rochester.

Deputies are speaking with a person of interest in the investigation.

The officer was treated at a Rochester hospital and later released.

Deputies said the Rochester Police Department helped look for the car in the city and eventually located the vehicle believed to be involved.
