ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Markiya Mitchell, 25, the Rochester mother charged with drowning her 10-day-old son in a bathtub, was indicted by a grand jury on a second-degree murder charge Friday.

According to court paperwork Mitchell intentionally left her 10-day-old son, Jeremiah submerged in 8-to-10 inches of bath water for an extended period of time.

Rochester police say Mitchell told them she heard voices before placing the child in the water.

Mitchell's other child, a 7-year-old, is staying with family.

She remains jailed.
