ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A two-year-old boy was seriously hurt Friday on Rochester's west side.

Police were called to a house on Walnut Street at 11:55 a.m. for reports of a child getting shot.

The boy, identified by police as Zayden Phillips, remains in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital, police said.

During an investigation into the incident, a search warrant was issued and executed at the home on Walnut Street. A handgun was found, leading to the arrest of the child's father, Charles Timothy Phillips, 36.

Phillips has been charged with first degree assault and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
