CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- The police officer involved in a shooting earlier this month at a Canandaigua apartment complex has been identified.

According to the Canandaigua city manager, Sgt. Scott Kadien was the officer who exchanged gunfire with an off-duty parole officer at the Pinnacle North Apartments in Canandaigua.

Sandra Guardiola, 48, was shot and killed on October 4.

Police are still investigating what led up to the incident, but said Wednesday it was Guardiola who fired at Kadien first.

In a press release from city manager John Goodwin, Sgt. Kadien has been with the Canandaigua Police Department for 15 years with a total of more than 20 years of law enforcement experience.

The officer has since returned to work and was placed in an administrative role pending results of a state police investigation.
