A decision by the city to move a proposed performing arts center to the Rochester Riverside Hotel has given new hope to supporters of green space at Parcel 5.

It was Trombone Shorty's performance at Parcel 5 at the 2016 Jazz Fest that sparked the discussion of an outdoor green space for events.

Rochester Visionary Square has been proposing an open space for entertainment to be the face of Parcel 5 since September 2016.

The group has raised $25,000 to go into making that space a permanent area for live entertainment and festivals that are surrounded by vendors.

They tell us Tuesday's announcement by the city to change locations of a performing arts center from Parcel 5 to the Riverside Hotel will be another chance to make this happen.

“I want to see tangible change. We are working on fundraising to install soil and grass on the top of this gravel and next year we want to see open green space in here," said Ken Sato , Rochester Visionary Square.

Visionary Square is hoping to raise $50,000 to turn Parcel 5 into a permanent green space.
