ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The state is giving more than $1 million to Monroe County to increase pedestrian safety.

The money will go toward Monroe County's Pedestrian Safety Action Plan — which the county says will increase walkability.

While the plan is still in the proposal phase, the county says it will increase visibility at more than 400 crosswalks, give pedestrians more time to cross at more than 30 crosswalks and install reflective strips and flashing lights at certain crosswalks.

Monroe County says the grant will be submitted to county legislators next month.
