Budget negotiations are getting the bulk of the legislature's attention this week, but the Senate took up another big issue on Monday: revenge porn. If you're not familiar with the term, revenge porn is when one person shares or distributes someone else's nude or otherwise intimate photo or images without their consent. The pictures are usually given by the subject to their significant other, who then posts them online or publishes them after a breakup- in some cases even including personal contact information for the victim to encourage harassment. Current New York State law only prohibits someone from sharing nude photos that were taken without the subject's knowledge. Senator Phil Boyle sponsors the bill to close that loophole.
