ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester's laser lab will likely stay afloat for another year.

As part of the 2018 government spending bill, the U of R's Laboratory for Laser Energetics and OMEGA Laser Facility would receive $75 million to continue its work.

The facility was one of three recently put on the chopping block by the Department of Energy.

Sen. Charles Schumer visited the lab earlier this month to unveil a three point plan to save the lab from closure.

The $75 million is an increase over last year's $68 million, enough to cover operating costs for the year and keep its 340 workers.

The bill will be voted on by both the House and Senate this week.
