Zay Jones returned to Bills practice for the first time since his rookie season ended, but Jones did not want to return to that bizarre incident in Los Angeles back in March that found him bloody and naked.

"I think I'd be doing myself a very big disservice if I went back to there. That moment was very traumatic for me and my family and to rehash that now at this point in time wouldn't be doing me any good,” he said.

As questions remain about what happened that night, Jones is glad the question about his football future following it has been answered.

"I'm grateful. I could have lost my life, so I'm grateful to just be here and to be on this field and to be with my teammates, to see my family. I don't think there's any other word that describes it but just thankful and grateful,” said Jones.

From a football standpoint, Jones is wearing a non-contact jersey and is just working against air right now. He did get some time with the second team, but he's entering a wide-open wide receiver competition quite behind, but Sean McDermott is confident he can close the gap before the regular season begins.

"We got our work cut out for us and Zay knows that. It's not something that can't be achieved. We just have to continue to work at it and get him up to speed as quickly as we can, but at the same time at the right pace,” said McDermott.

"A lot of this game is mental. There's a mental aspect that goes into it. The film study, understanding the playbook schematically and I've had time to just take a step back and understand all of it. So I would say that I'm progressing in other areas. Obviously I haven't been on the field and had the time on the field, but all the stuff's going to come eventually,” said Jones.
