EAST AURORA, N.Y. — East Aurora officials and business owners know they have a drainage problem. They’re working to determine the best way to fix it without breaking the bank.

The village board agreed to make updates to the Tannery Brook culvert, the drainage system that failed last fall and caused a massive sinkhole.

The goal is to abandon the old pipe and build a new system that will last up to 50 years.

“It’s in bad shape. It needs to be replaces, so that’s why we’re rushing it,” said Raymond Byrnes, an East Aurora trustee.

The village and business owners are still trying to figure out how much it’s going to cost and who will pay for it. The previous estimate to replace the culvert was near $1 million.
