The tree decorated in the lobby of ECMC’s Dialysis Center Thursday wasn’t decked out with regular ornaments.

Green ornaments were placed on the tree by people who have received a transplanted kidney. Red ornaments were added to the tree by dialysis patients.

Gold butterfly ornaments were added in recognition of kidney donors, while silver butterflies were placed on the tree by living donors.

“The whole renal community is just an amazing group of people, because most of us have been through major illnesses, have done dialysis and have done transplants,” said Barbara Breckenridge of the Kidney Foundation of Western New York.

ECMC has offered kidney transplants since 1964.
