NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — A man was rescued in the Niagara Falls Gorge this morning after he got stuck on rocks while fishing.

Niagara Falls Fire Chief Tom Colangelo says the man was about 50 feet out on the rocks and water levels started to rise, causing him to get stuck.

The city’s Fire Department and Park Police crews threw out a rope for the man to hold on to and then contacted the US and Canada power authorities to lower the water level to rescue him.

Fire officials say this happens often to people who in the gorge to fish.

Within an hour, water levels can fluctuate five to 10 feet, Colangelo said.

Officials say the fisherman wasn't injured.
