Grand Island took down South Park 38-32 in double overtime to advance to the Section VI Class A semifinals.

The Vikings looked to have the game in hand late in the fourth quarter. Grand Island led 32-20 with less than four minutes to play.

Backed up deep in their own territory, South Park put the ball on the ground on a botched snap. Quarterback Dabeyon Humphrey corralled the loose ball and uncorked a deep ball to a wide-open Clarence Thomas, who took it 87 yards to bring the Sparks within six.

On their next possession, Grand Island put the ball on the ground themselves. South Park took advantage of the blunder, with Elijah Lewis scooping and scoring to tie the game. A failed two-point conversion sent the contest to overtime.

After three scoreless possessions, Grand Island ended the game in the second overtime period. Cam Sionko hit Justin Gorrell for the touchdown to send the Vikings into the second round.

For South Park (5-3), the season ends in disappointment. The Sparks headed into the postseason with high aspirations, looking to build on last season’s Class A runner- up finish with another title game appearance.

Grand Island (7-1) heads into the semifinals on a seven-game winning streak. Since dropping their opener to Starpoint, the Vikings are unbeaten. They will look to push their streak to eight next weekend against third-seeded West Seneca East. The Trojans advanced to the semifinals by taking down Kenmore West 42-7.
