West Seneca East defeated South Park 15-6 Friday in a battle of Section VI Class A undefeated squads.

The Spartan’s victory is technically an upset; West Seneca East was ranked 20th in the most recent NYSSWA state Class A rankings. South Park was 15th.

With the victory, West Seneca East now sits alone at the top of the Section VI Class A3 division as last remaining unbeaten.

Niam Bonner opened up the scoring for the Trojans with a four yard touchdown midway through the second quarter. The Sparks responded with a score of their own, a three yard touchdown pass from Dabeyon Humphrey to Jayon Renfro. A failed conversion let West Seneca East enter the locker room with a 7-6 lead at the half.

Shaun Dolac punched in a short touchdown early in the fourth quarter for the game’s final score.

Friday’s low scoring slugfest comes on the heels of a pair of explosive offensive outbursts. South Park scored 40 in a victory last weekend over Amherst. West Seneca East put up 59 in a win against Starpoint.

South Park (4-1) will try to recover when the travel to Starpoint next Friday at 7pm. It will not be an easy bounce back game. The Spartans will enter the weekend 4-1 with their lone loss coming in their aforementioned contest with the Trojans.

West Seneca East (5-0) will put their perfect record on the line next Friday against Maritime. Kickoff is also at 7pm.
