Voters in Chautauqua County elected a new top leader, as current County Executive Vince Horrigan did not seek a second term in office.

Chautauqua County Republican Legislator George Borrello emerged victorious in his bid for county executive by a wide margin.

Borrello took 63 percent of the vote against the 37 percent for Democratic challenger Fredonia businessman Mike Ferguson.

"It's extremely exciting. I'm so humbled to win by such a wide margin. I'm just absolutely bowled over by the confidence people in Chautauqua County have shown in me and I will not let them down,” said Borrello.

"I'm shocked actually at the difference but we're proud of the race that we ran. I think both George and myself ran a very positive race, we kept it above board and we were able to stick to the issues,” said Ferguson.

Borrello will now start to assemble a transition team and officially take office on January 1.
