BUFFALO, N.Y. — Edward Kast is thankful to have his van back.

Sunday night, he left the vehicle running as he picked up some Chinese food in Cheektowaga.

When he came back out, the van was gone.

Later that night, Buffalo Police located the van after responding to a home for a noise disturbance.

"They were able to recover the vehicle and notified us and we came and towed it back to our impound lot," Edward said.

While Edward was relieved to get the undamaged van back, he was most excited about its contents: four harmonicas and a custom stroller.

Edward says the items are a big part of his son Eddie's well-being.

Edward has played the harmonica for 40 years, and always has one handy.

"It became part of his life and his therapy. He likes instrumental songs, and he likes me to sing to him," Edward said.

The stroller allows Edward's wife, Helen, to take Eddie to see his friends and family.

Eddie is non-verbal and Helen asks a series of questions to find out who he wants to see in the neighborhood, waiting for him to nod at his choice.

There's a few stops of course. Eddie's a popular guy.

As for Edward, the return of his family's sense of normalcy brings him comfort.

"I can't express my gratitude enough for everybody that's been involved in this 48 hours of intrigue, but we're just pleased it had a happy ending," Edward said.
