PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Sunday marked Day Four of the Buffalo Bills' training camp.

“Buffalo Bills, because that’s what I’m all about, Buffalo Bills because that’s how we get down,” said Steven Breedlove, a fan from Rochester.

The day even came with special guests: Santa Claus, the missus and his reindeer.

“People may not know this, but Mrs. Claus and I love the Buffalo Bills,” Mr. Claus said.

Dubbed Christmas in July, the camp’s special theme was especially appropriate for children from the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation; a nonprofit for young survivors and battlers of cancer. With the help from partner organizations like the Courage of Carly Fund, they took the kids to training camp to watch the practice and meet the players.

Kids like Emmett Jakubowski, who was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 10.

“I was just emotionally shocked," Jakubowski said. "I thought, I asked, ‘Am I going to die?’”

Now 13 and in remission, he says his love of sports helped pull him through.

“I wouldn’t think about anything, worry about anything," Jakubowski said. "I’d just be in the mood, be in the mode, to play sports and play football or hockey.”

He had to receive a bone marrow transplant to survive, and now has to contend with a related chronic disease, but his mother says it’s great to see him once again having fun.

“It means everything, to see him smile and play, have a good time and just be a kid,” Colleen Jakubowski said.

Jakubowski says he’s grateful to be alive, and for the Christmas cheer given to him this summer.

“It makes me think I’m free, I’m better, and got nothing to worry about anymore,” Jakubowski said.

After all, one Bills fan said it best…

“Every day is Christmas in July when you’re a Bills fan.” Mark Moloni, a fan from Rochester, said.
