WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Western New York cancer treatment center CCS Oncology is closing its doors Friday, leaving hundreds of patients in limbo.

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center held a forum Monday night to help them find new doctors.

Many former CCS patients say they heard about the closing over the weekend in a letter sent out by the company.

Roswell Park estimates have that at least 1,700 people were actively undergoing treatment at CCS when the company originally filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago. So they sent letters of their own to every patient, inviting them to speak one-on-one Monday night with Roswell representatives so they could help them figure out what their next steps are for treatment.

“The bad part about all of this if you want to call it that, was just seeing everything [about it in the media] and not getting anything from CCS, up until they sent ‘we’re closed,’” said former CCS patient Tom Burns.

“It’s enough to just go through cancer and to be diagnosed with cancer and to go through the treatment. Imagine somebody in the middle of their treatment, suddenly being abandoned in the sense of ‘my provider who is treating me is no longer able to do that,’” said Dr. Boris Kuvshinoff, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s chief medical officer.

Roswell is working to make sure that if patients call, they'll be seen within two days. The number to their hotline is 716-845-2300.

They’ve also partnered with the Buffalo Medical Group & Catholic Health to run a separate hotline for concerned patients. It’s open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. The number is (716) 706-2100.
