Improving health outcomes in the African American Community, that's the goal of a first-of-its-kind conference next Saturday at U-B's Medical School. The goal is to find solutions for some of the issues affecting our health, including housing, education, and employment. Experts from all over the country will be in town to start drafting community solutions to the issue.

The data from the African American Health Disparities Task Force shows infant mortality rates are three times higher than for whites and asthma rates are four times higher. And for African Americans living in certain zip codes, the risk of premature death is three times as likely!

"We're trying to build a movement of getting people to work on some really meaningful solutions. One of the outcomes would be the development of an African American Health Disparities office right there in the medical campus or around it that would specifically work on these issues on a daily basis," said Reverend George Nicholas, Pastor at Lincoln Memorial United Methodist Church in Buffalo.

The Igniting Hope Conference is April 28th 8 to 4:30 at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences on the Medical Campus in Buffalo.
