Next stop for the Syracuse Orange: Omaha, Nebraska.

While any run in the NCAA tournament puts a team in the spotlight, it's shining a little brighter after some comments in the Orange locker room. Nichole Auerbach, reporter for online outlet The Athletic, tweeted that someone in the Syracuse locker room said, "Nebraska is like Missouri, flat and farms."

That's a common thought for some Syracuse fans Spectrum News talked to.

"Farmland, watermills, things of that agricultural nature,” said SU fan Nick Friedland.

"It’s farmland and flatland. Cold, I guess,” said Elena Schlegel, who is also a die-hard Orange fan.

That tweet started a social media firestorm. An Omaha World Herald columnist responded with an article: "People who live in itty-bitty Syracuse (NY) shouldn't throw shade on Nebraska."

It was quickly picked up by papers across the Midwest. Omaha officials are hoping to turn it all into a positive.

"When people visit, they are surprised that we're a city with so much to offer,” said Visit Omaha Communications Director Tracie McPherson.

McPherson said residents are used to hearing those types of comments. She's sure the weekend will be a victory for everyone.

“I hope they walk away with a win,” said McPherson. “But I also hope they walk away knowing Omaha is a great city and that they felt welcomed here, and they come back again."
